The musical based on Tina Turner’s life is coming to Broadway next year after a successful run in the UK.
The legendary 78-year-old singer took to her Twitter on Wednesday to make the exciting announcement that her life story will be hitting the stage in New York City.
She wrote: ‘Bringing this musical to life on stage and working with this team has meant so much to me.
‘And now I’m happy to share that we will next come to Broadway in Fall 2019,’ her statement continued. ‘I’m very excited to share this beautiful musical with New York audiences. Can’t wait to see you there!’
Stage Entertainment confirmed the news on Wednesday that Tina – The Tina Turner Musical will debut on Broadway in Fall 2019, though no theater or specific dates have been announced.
The musical debuted in London’s Aldwych Theater for previews on March 21, with the official opening on April 17, with the show extending its bookings to February 16, 2019.
The show is also preparing for its debut in Germany, opening at Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg in March 2019.
‘On behalf of everyone involved with our production, I am delighted that following our thrilling opening here in the West End we are now in the process of planning two further productions worldwide,’ said Tai Pelman, Producer and Group Creative Managing Director at Stage Entertainment.
‘We created our musical in London, a city which has always been very special to Tina, and we are excited to be starting our next chapter,’ Pelman added.
The show follows Turner’s humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her ascension as ‘Queen of Rock and Roll,’ revealing, ‘the untold story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race.’
