The location of Government Headquarters in Bay Street has been identified as the potential site for a new conference centre.
This was revealed by Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Investment, Marsha Caddle, during debate on a resolution to grant the sum of five million dollars to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The funds will among other things, help fund government’s tourism redevelopment project for the City.
Minister Caddle says Barbados is an extremely attractive destination for meetings and conferences.
While not disclosing the sum that will go to the development of the conference centre, she notes that the location of Government Headquarters is prime real estate.
A quarter of the five million dollars will be used in the Fairchild Street Market redevelopment project to, among other things, construct a butcher’s block and pave a car park in the general area.
Some of the funds will also give the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. a start to begin transforming the City to a mixed use residential and commercial hub.
